The Inland Empire

Recovery Housing in the IE

The Inland Empire — spanning both Riverside and San Bernardino counties — is one of the largest and fastest-growing metro regions in California. With over 4.6 million residents, the IE has a significant and growing need for quality recovery housing. For people in recovery from substance use disorders, the Inland Empire offers a combination of affordability, space, and community that is increasingly difficult to find in coastal Southern California.

Compared to Los Angeles County, where the average cost of living is significantly higher, the Inland Empire provides more affordable housing, lower daily expenses, and a suburban environment that reduces exposure to many of the triggers associated with urban living. For people transitioning out of treatment, this cost advantage is not just convenient — it is essential. Recovery takes time, and financial pressure is one of the leading causes of early relapse.

The recovery community in the Inland Empire is active and growing. Both Riverside and San Bernardino counties have extensive networks of AA, NA, and other peer support groups meeting daily across dozens of cities. County behavioral health departments — including RUHS Behavioral Health in Riverside County and the Department of Behavioral Health in San Bernardino County — offer outpatient treatment, crisis intervention, and referral services. CalOptima and Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) provide Medi-Cal coverage for substance use disorder treatment across the region.

Employment opportunities in the IE are strong, particularly in logistics, warehousing, healthcare, construction, and retail. Major employers and distribution centers along the I-10 and I-15 corridors provide accessible job opportunities for residents rebuilding their careers. This economic landscape means that people in recovery can find work, build financial stability, and transition toward independence — all within the same region where they are receiving housing support.
